WHO WE ARE
Simply put, Redeem Your Ground exists to do one thing – create outdoor spaces that bring life to our clients.
And that can be tricky…because what brings life to one client can be very different from what brings life to another. That’s why we take the time to get to know you and how you & your family want to live outside at home. From there the right design…your design…really flows quite naturally.
Most firms don’t do that. We do. That’s just who we are.
Redeem Your Ground Leadership
Doug Scott left corporate America in 2012 to start Redeem Your Ground with the goal of helping people connect in real ways outside at home. Holly Brooks, on the other hand, has been doing just that for years.
Doug and Holly met when Doug was taking the Landscape Design Program at Emory University and Holly was one of his instructors. Very quickly they found that they shared the same passions for family, the outdoors, and intentional landscape design.
After a few years of collaborating with Doug and installing RYG’s designs, Holly joined Redeem Your Ground. As part of the RYG team, not only does Holly bolster Redeem Your Ground’s design capabilities, her deep experience in landscape installation and project management creates a seamless progression from design conceptualization all the way to installation.
More About Doug Scott
Doug’s path to owning a landscape design firm is anything but typical. After graduating from Vanderbilt and receiving his MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, Doug worked with several consulting firms. Unfortunately…although successful, this career path didn’t tap into Doug’s true passions for family, the outdoors, and of all things…landscape design. So in his spare time he started creating outdoor living spaces for his friends that reflected who they were and how they wanted to live.
There’s more to it than that, but the impact that his efforts had on these families affirmed his call to take the leap of faith to start Redeem Your Ground | exterior design studio. Concurrently, Doug completed the Landscape Design Program at Emory University to complement his personal experience and natural skills in design and client engagement.
At the same time, Doug and his wife, Brittany, launched Redeem Your Ground | family, home & garden blog. Their hope is that their efforts there will encourage more people to spend time outside with friends and family. As they like to say, they want to help others…bring life back home, where it should be.
Doug and Brittany live just outside of Atlanta with their two daughters, 7 chickens, 2 garden cats, and 1 bunny. Check out RYGblog to read more about their story and to hopefully be encouraged to spend more time outside at home.
More About Holly Brooks
A Colorado native, Holly’s love for the outdoors and living a healthy lifestyle led her to Colorado State University where she earned a degree in environmental horticulture, with a concentration in landscape design and construction.
Now, with over 20 years of experience designing and building award-winning landscapes, Holly starts each project with the conviction that a landscape can and should be more than just pretty…can and should be more than just functional. Her stylistic design incorporates the best that nature has to offer – edible and medicinal plants, native and sustainable alternatives, and a careful eye that guards against high maintenance choices that are commonly found in a less experienced design.
Holly believes that everyone should feel compelled to spend time outside each day. Not laboring over their landscape, but enjoying and resting in it. And with the right design, all of that is possible. This is why Holly says, a well-designed outdoor space will give back to its caretaker – health, healing, nurturing, and nutrition.
So it’s no surprise that Holly’s projects have been featured on HGTV’s Ground Breakers, as well as on home shows and garden tours throughout Atlanta. You can read more about Holly and her work with colleague, Eric King, at King Landscaping.
And like Doug, Holly doesn’t just talk the talk – she walks the walk. She and her husband, Stephen, live outside of Atlanta with their 2 daughters, dog, and 2 cats…where they enjoy their family vegetable garden and naturalized play space – complete with tree house, bike trails, and tree swing.
Awards and Other Exciting News
2015 started out with a bang for RYG. First, Doug was asked to join the Growing a Greener World® (GGW) team as Consulting Director of Business Development. GGW is an award-winning television show broadcast on national public television all over the U.S. and abroad. It features stories on organic gardening, green living, farm-to-table food, and environmental landscape design. Each episode focuses on truly inspirational people and their compelling efforts to make a positive impact on the world…and their stories are shared in a way that helps everyday people make a difference at home.
Doug’s involvement with GGW will not only give him deeper and broader experiences that he’ll be able to incorporate into his client’s designs, it will also give him great stories and information to share on RYGblog.
And then…RYGblog was a finalist for several of the Hall of Fame Awards at the 2015 Garden Bloggers Conference…and ultimately was voted Best New Blog. In addition, Doug was invited to be an expert contributor on Apartment Therapy – one of the top home & garden lifestyle blogs.
Then Doug had the great honor of being asked to write a featured article for Southern Living – telling both the “RYG story” and how the Scotts transformed their own yard. So be sure to check out Doug’s article in the April 2016 issue of Southern Living.
And finally, in the Spring of 2016 RYG launched The RYG Store. There you’ll find several collections of ground redeeming tee shirts, all designed with the hope of inspiring people to get outside more to connect with friends & family. So check it out and see if there’s a shirt that captures one of your outdoorsy passions!
